Meeting the Greats!

Emily and Daddy waiting...
Saturday we went to Indianapolis to Josh's Great Aunt Donna's house. Josh's Grandma Linda and her husband John were coming into town for lunch. We decided to drive up and suprise them since they hadn't met Emily yet. We made it all the way there, and after I got us lost, we still beat them there. Josh had to spoil the suprise though! He texted his Grandma (yes, she can text!) and told her we were waiting on them! Josh's Great Grandma Bernice was also with them.

After we visited for a while, we went to lunch at Texas Roadhouse. It was so nice to visit with so much of Josh's family. We don't get to see many of them very often since most of them live in Kansas. When we got to the restaurant, Josh's Great Grandma was telling everyone she was a Great Great Grandma. It was so sweet. She was so happy to meet Emily.

After dinner we just hung out at Donna's house for a few hours. She had made dump cake for desert! My Favorite!!!! Everyone knows Josh likes to tear things up, so she couldn't let a good opportunity pass her by!!!! She ahd the guys go out and tear out a tree and several bushes she needed removed. Josh enjoyed every minute of it!

Emily was so tired by the end of the day. It was a big day for her! She got to meet so much of her family for the first time, and even though I know she won't remember it, it is nice to have memories to let her know just how loved she is and how special she is to so many people.

Not much happened in the past week. Last Friday night we went to the Balloon Glow with the Jenkins Family. Emily and Ellie LOVED the balloons! Dawn got pictures, and I will post them when I get them from her. The ones of Emily and Ellie are so cute, I just know they are going to be the best of friends.

Saturday we went swimming at Uncle Bill's and Aunt Mona's. Emily was so funny! She just loves the water. I wouldn't know where she got that! ;) She was worn out so we spent a lazy evening at home.

Josh is in his second and final week of school. He has passed all of his exams with flying colors! I am so proud of him. I know how hard it is to cram a ton of information in your brain in two weeks. He is taking his second and final FAA exam as I am typing this, and I know he is doing wonderful! He will be home later this evening and we can't wait to see him!

We are suppose to travel to Indianapolis tomorrow where Emily will meet her Great Grandma Linda and Great Grandpa John for the first time. She may also get to meet her Great Great Grandma. We will also be visiting with Great Great Aunt Donna and cousin Andrew. It should be a fun visit! Look for pictures to follow!

Well I am keeping my fingers crossed for Josh! Say a prayer for him in his testing and in his travels tonight!

Stay Blessed!

My first tooth!!!!!!

Emily got her first tooth yesterday! Mom was playing with her and she went to chew on her finger, which is her favorite thing to do, and there it was! When she called me and told me I thought she was crazy. I had just felt her gums the night before and didn't feel a thing. When I picked her up yesterday, sure enough, there was a tooth! What a big girl! She is growing so fast! Next thing I know she'll be driving!

An angel has been called home...

I attended the funeral of a very special lady today. Mary Gertrude Mayfield passed away on Saturday. I was blessed to know Gertie through her grandson Eric whom is a dear friend of mine. I can honestly say I have never met a woman any more special than she was. There was never a person she met whose life she didn't impact in some positive way. She was truely an angel. A poem was read at the funeral, and it really touched me. I thought I would share it.
The Dash
by
Linda Ellis
I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her tombstone From the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of her birth And spoke of the following date with tears,But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time That she spent alive on earth And now only those who loved her Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own, The cars, the house, the cash, What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard; Are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough To consider what’s true and real And always try to understand The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger And show appreciation more And love the people in our livesLike we’ve never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect And more often wear a smile,Remembering that this special dash Might only last a little while.
So when your eulogy is being read With your life’s actions to rehash Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent your dash?
Gertie will be missed by many. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers, so they may find peace in her passing.
Stay Blessed!

I Did It!

One of my goals for the summer is to make sure I update my blog once a week. I am going to reach it! I know I have been a slacker and haven't kept up with it since Josh left for Germany. I hate it that I have left out so many of the new things Emily is doing each day.

Josh is home from Germany, and while he had a great time over there, I think he is glad to be home. He is in Nashville for the next two weeks getting his A&P Certification. Hopefully this will lead to a good job that he is happy with. I pray every day for him to find a job that makes him happy and makes him feel good.

While Emily is doing many new things every day, nothing major has happened since my last post. She started giggling just before Josh got home and hasn't stopped since! She is such a happy baby!!! Josh and I are so blessed to have such a good little girl! Josh and I took her swimming for the first time last Sunday. It was more of a trial, just to see how she would react to the water. It was still a bit too cold, so we only kept her in about 15 minutes. She did GREAT! She may turn out to be a fish just like her mommy!
Hold me to my goal...make sure I keep updating! I'm counting on you guys to remind me if I slack again! (Dawn...I know you will)
Stay Blessed!
